Lime Management Ltd. and British Airways
Pre-travel Update
March 2007
From 01 April 07, British Airways has mandated that Advance Passenger Information (API) and Emergency Contact Data (ECD) is featured within ALL bookings that are ticketed on behalf of British Airways and their Franchise Partners.
API Make Sure You Comply
Q. What is Advance Passenger Information (API)?
A. Advance Passenger Information (API) is specific information about passengers required by the Immigration Authorities of selected governments prior to travel. Many Immigration Authorities have now made it a legal requirement for arriving airlines to provide this information.
Q. Why do I have to supply API?
A. Following the events of September 11 2001, security has been increased and there is now an additional focus on airlines to supply more information about passengers before travel. Passengers who refuse to supply API will not be allowed entry to their arrival destination and therefore will not be accepted for travel at check in. It is the tour operators responsibility to input this information into bookings prior to travel to minimise disruption at the airport.
Q What type of API data is required?
A. API data varies by destination, and typically includes passport information such as passport number, expiry date, given names, last name, gender, DOB, and nationality. Full details are available on www.batraveltrade.com simply type API in the search field and click go.
Q. Which countries require API data?
A. USA, Canada, Mexico, China (except Hong Kong), United Arab Emirates, Japan, Thailand, South Africa, Pakistan, Kenya, Algeria, Iran, Syria, Morocco, Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago.* Correct at 31 March 2007, subject to frequent change.
Q. How can I supply API?
A. British Airways’ aim is to make the process of collecting the required information as quick and easy as possible.
  • You can provide this information by inputting it directly into your PNRs (click for list of GDS entry codes)
  • You can input it on British Airways trade page www.ba.com/travelpartner
  • Alternatively you can input it via Lime’s website www.lime-management.co.uk
Q. How will API be used?
A. Once you’ve supplied British Airways with API, it will be submitted electronically to the immigration authority of the relevant country shortly after each flight has departed. British Airways are bound by UK data protection and privacy laws and will not forward this information to anyone or show it to anyone who does not have appropriate security clearances (Immigration Authorities). It will only be used for its intended purpose.
